David's Deliberations ...

How heartening it is to see Rotary Clubs from across District 9500 and Australia uniting to create change in the lives of fellow Australians; meeting the needs of farmers experiencing drought and the healthcare at home needs of our Aboriginal community through Purple House in Alice Springs, are wonderful examples of this.

Thank you to all who have contributed; your donations are in keeping with our new vision statement, which urges us to take care of our family at home first if we want to change the world:-

Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change, across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves

The importance of unity cannot be overstated and is so relevant as we consider positive change in our Clubs and Districts to ensure we flourish for another 100 years; listening to one another will help us come together.

Don’t forget closing dates for District Grants and Premier's Awards is 24 August.

Have fun and be the inspiration!

Purple House, Alice Springs

The Rotary Club of Alice Springs hosted the hand-over of two vehicles to Western Desert Dialysis, better known as Purple House in Alice Springs.

The donation was made possible thanks to the generous support of Rotary clubs in NT, SA, NSW and ACT, the Centrecorp Foundation and Rotary Australia World Community Service. Local businesses Sutton Motors, Peter Kittle Toyota and AA Signs also contributed substantially to the project.

Purple House CEO Sarah Brown and her team were thrilled to receive the vehicles at a special event in Alice Springs last Friday
10 August 2018.  A full story of this wonderful project will be included in our first issue of Collaborations due out shortly.

BBQing for Scout Jamboree - Raise funds for your club!
Registrations / Expressions of Interest close Friday 17 August
Districts 9500 and 9520 have been approached by Scouts Australia to provide support to the National Scouts Jamboree being held at Tailem Bend from Friday 4 January to Monday 14 January 2019.  This service is also an opportunity to raise funds for your Club.  Rotary has been offered three options for consideration and clubs are asked to express their interest in being involved in this major project.  Register you own club or collaborate with other clubs and register.

Jeff Cluse, 9500 District Team Leader for Club Administration, is coordinating this project on behalf of both Districts and is currently looking for committee members as well as expressions of interest from Clubs across both Districts.

District Grants:  Don't Miss this Window of Opportunity
Final Reminder
Applications for District Grants opened on 1 July 2018; however, the period in which applications can be submitted is relatively brief and closes on 24th August.

Does your club have a good idea?  Do you need a District Grant to help it along?  Don't delay, procrastinate or dawdle.

If your club has qualified by attending the appropriate seminars, you've taken the first step.  Your crucial next step is to act now and lodge your application.  Give yourself time to ensure all your information is correctly conveyed.

Applications are to be lodged on-line with both
Foundation Team Leader PDG Doug Layng (doug.layng@bigpond.comand Foundation Grants Chair Ed King (edward.king3@bigpond.com).
You will find a full set of application papers on the district website.

Both Doug and Ed will be away from Adelaide during different parts of the application window.  By submitting applications to both, any margins for error and possible misplacing of paperwork, will be greatly minimised.

You are invited to
Donations in Kind Working Bee
Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Taranaki Road, Edinburgh SA
Rotary Australia Worldwide Community Service Central Region will be providing a BBQ for all those who come along to the joint district working bee at the RAWCS Donations in Kind (DIK) facility at Edinburgh on Saturday, 18th August 2018. Rotarians and friends from all clubs in the two districts are invited to attend this working bee that nominally starts at 9:30am and the BBQ starts at Midday. Your assistance on the day will greatly help the running of DIK, one of Rotary Australia World Community Service’s most dynamic but unsung.

Your help on the day will substantially complement the steadfast efforts of the DIK committee, regular volunteers and clubs that have had working bees at DIK in the past.  As well as providing constructive help to, these working bees provide Rotarians and friends the opportunity for having fun while working together on a common cause and good fellowship. A program of priority tasks has been identified that would be a great opportunity for you and your club to get hands on international service locally.

Note: Turn left at the first roundabout on Taranaki Rd and follow the signs.

Fighting for our Farmers
A partnership has been formed between Rotary Australia, Channel 9 and the National Farmers’ Federation to help our drought-stricken farmers, launching an appeal to big business and everyday Australians, so we can provide some emergency relief.

Rotary Australia Relief Fund (managed by RAWCS) has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) registration and has been listed as a Charitable Fund so we can accept tax deductible donations from individuals or organisations.  Every dollar counts and 100% of donations goes to the farmers.

If you are looking for a good way to help, this is it.  Follow the link for the donation page for the project:

Were you inspired by the video, featured last issue? It was made by the Adelaide Rotaract Clubs who, in turn, were inspired by the Nakivale Rotaract Club - a Rotaract Club in a refugee camp.  Click on the link below to watch the video.

If this has inspired you to create a Rotaract Club near you, the first and important step is to approach your Assistant Governor, requesting he/she contact Rob Eley, Mike Stevens, Graham Fussen and Rick Henke.  Your Assistant Governor is your point of contact to ensure the smooth process.

REQUIRED: City Residence for DGE Jane

District Governor Elect, Jane Owens, whose home is in Whyalla, would like to secure a place to stay in Adelaide from May 2019 for at least 13 months whilst she carries out her duties as District Governor 2019-2020.

It is envisaged that it will be more cost effective and manageable for Jane to be located mainly in the city during her term rather than travelling to and fro and paying for hotel/motel accommodation.

A partly furnished 2-bedroom home or unit with parking facilities is required.

If you, or someone you know, can help in this regard, please phone Jane on 0438 844 485.

Thank you,
DG David
