In November 2015, Adelaide West Rotary Club member and International Fellowship of Motorcycling Rotarian (IFMR) President Claus Weber, set off from Adelaide with a friend from work, and they rode their motorcycles to Cobar in New South Wales.

Cobar was the start of The Big Ride organised by the IFMR, where they were joined by 20 more riders, with funds raised during the event to be donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

They left Cobar with twenty other IFMR members and headed to the back of Bourke, where both Cobar and Bourke Rotary club Presidents met the group and organised meals.  At Walgett a District Governor from New South Wales joined the ride.  The next stop was Gunnedah where the local Rotary club had prepared a BBQ lunch at their club’s main project, Pioneer Park, which over looked the town.

At Bathurst the riders met Joanne McRae, President Elect for the RC of Orange Sunrise.  Joanne organised lunch at the University where she works. The IFMR held its AGM at Batemans Bay with nearly 40 members riding in from different parts of Australia where another District governor joined the group ride.  The Rotary Club in Orbost put on a great spread in the evening and there was some excellent Rotary fellowship.

The next day they rode over the Alpine Way to Albury and joined the RC of Albury’s meeting.  The following day the group rode to Lockhart for another Rotary Club BBQ and then on to Griffith which completed the official ride.

The next morning they joined the RC of Griffith Avanti for their breakfast meeting before heading home.  Claus and Robert headed to Shepparton and attended the RC of Shepparton’s meeting.

The cheque was presentation at the Adelaide Airport in the RFDS hanger. This was an excellent way to show Rotary fellowship throughout our great country.

They arrived back in Adelaide after their 5500 kilometre ride which raised over $2400 for the RFDS.  The cheque was presentation at the Adelaide Airport in the RFDS hanger. This was an excellent way to show Rotary fellowship throughout our great country.

Thanks for sharing this, Claus.  What a great story, and a fine example of Clubs and Districts working together for a common cause.  Try it!
