 Boat races on a sandy creek bed attracts lots of attention!!!  Alice Springs one again came alive to put on one of the greatest iconic events drawing crowds from all corners of the globe. In the event's 56th year competitors and spectators came together supporting Alice Springs 3 Rotary Clubs major fundraising event.  
District Governor Peter Schaefer, who is from Rotary Club of Alice Springs has been a strong supporter of the event raising funds for Community Projects.
 Opening the event, DG Peter spoke about Rotary's long term association with this event;
Distinguished guests, Ladies & Gentlemen, It is an honour and a privilege for me to be here today representing Rotary.  This is a Rotary event.  An event that has been held for the past 55 years.  Today is our 56th event.  It is Iconic.  It’s known not just in Australia but around the world.  Our audience  –  that’s you guys, come from all-over Australia and the four corners of the globe  to see and participate in this fun and wacky day.  
The Henley on Todd is about raising funds for the three Rotary Clubs here in Alice Springs. They use this money to  “Make a Difference”   to the lives of the less fortunate and for assisting the community.  I thank you for taking part in today’s event and supporting Rotary.  I also thank our sponsors for their generous support.  Today is about Fun.  In fact, it’s about having FUN in a very wacky way.  Rotary is about fun to.  
We’re not a just a bunch of people getting together for a meal.   We are much more than that.  Rotary is about networking and friendship and it’s especially about making a positive difference in our communities, all over the world.
