Ed was born in 1946 in immediate post war London and moved with his parents to Cape Town, South Africa shortly after his first birthday. A blissfully happy childhood was spent in one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. Secondary education was followed by a year in 1964/65 in Maine USA as an exchange student. This life changing experience amongst other impacts accelerated emerging misgivings he had about the fairness of the society in which he was living. Compulsory military service and Tertiary education followed.
In February 1968 Ed started full time employment in the general insurance industry.  He and Sheena married in June 1971 and became active in the Service Club, Round Table. An opportunity to gain international experience in the Insurance Industry saw Ed & Sheena arrive in Melbourne, Australia in September 1974. He had been fortunate enough to be offered employment by the Australian operations of the company he had been working for.
Shortly after arrival Ed joined the Australian young persons Service Club, Apex and continued an active involvement culminating with being awarded life membership in November 1984. Ed & Sheena settled quite happily into Melbourne, though obviously missed the love, contact & support of an extended family. The family gradually grew with the birth of 2 daughters and a son. In late 1984 Ed was offered a promotion by his employer to State Manger for South Australia. A switch in employer took place in 1986, when Ed opted to stay in SA & not return to Melbourne. In one form or another Ed served that employer until June 2008, when he retired, with opportunities to provide consultancy services.
Ed's journey as a Rotarian started with his induction into the Rotary Club of Adelaide on 11th June 1986. It has continued with his present Club, KidmanPark where after serving on the Board in a variety of positions he became President in 2000/2001. Ed also became involved at a District level having served 3 years as Insurance Officer from 2001 - 2004. Other District involvement has been with ARCAP, GSE and Assistant Governor for 2007/8 & 2008/9.
Other community involvement includes surf lifesaving (including a 10 year involvement in coaching nippers). In the business sphere Ed was on the SA committee of the Insurance Council of Australia - including one year as chair. This also entailed serving on a number of industry and government working parties.
Other interests include - wine, travel, a good book (especially non fiction), the American Civil War and most importantly, the pleasure derived from a growing family. All three children now married & living close by in Adelaide. Presently there are two adorable grandchildren, with a third due late November/early December 2009.
